Pirate party
(7 year olds birthday party)
Ahoy there me hearties! The pirate party was so much FUN!

We prepared for the possibility of little boys becoming scallywags by having lots up our sleeve to keep them busy: (And they were all so good!)
BP my awesome sidekick (!!) was “Brown Eye Bruce”; adding both terror and hilarity!!!!!!
-On arrival the kids dove into a treasure chest we had set up with swords, patches, and hooks (we’d found at a $2 shop) to help them get into character
-Gold hunt:
The pirates then scanned the backyard for shiny gold coins…a prize given for the biggest loot. If you have a sandpit another idea could be to pan for gold (Spray painted stones)
Dead man Jocks cave:
Pirate initiation…sooooo funny!!!! Mum’s here and reminded us of this cool idea she’d done at a party when we were kids
The kids were led blindfolded under the house by parent helpers… to the cave of “Dead man Jock”
‘Brown Eye Bruce”; our pirate guide taunted the boys with talk of snakes and then had them touch dead man Jocks: Boot, wooden leg, beard (The trim of a Christmas stocking), undies (A tea towel dipped in sardines) and his eyeball ( a squishy banana)
If we’d thought of it sooner, music and sound effects would have further added to the suspense!
They were then informed that a bad pirate had run off with our gold and the need to practice their sword fighting so we could go after him. (Emphasizing sword to sword NOT swords to bodies-all was well!)
Pirate Piñata:
The boys queued up to strike the captured pirate(pinata)3 times each with a sword (A baton we’d put in a plastic sword). At his destruction out spilled the stolen gold wrapped lollies
Tuckers up:
Cannon balls (grapes), sharks blood (red drink), fish, chips, sunken treasure (blue jelly cups with lollies sunk to the bottom as jelly cooled) swords (Bread sticks)
Urging them to eat and get energy up for the battle that follows…
Pirate Battle:
BP has two huge boxes he uses for demolition that our kids had turned into ships. The pirates boarded their ships, got their ammunition (water bombs) and the battle began
Another option for ships could be to ask at a furniture/appliance shop for two big boxes
Pass the croc, walk the plank:
Kids in a circle pass around a crocodile (We have a toy one!) …the one who has it when the music stops or the captain turns around walks the plank
Musical islands:
Three blankets were set on the lawn as make-shift islands, music was then blasted and the boys boogied on down… When the music stopped it was their cue to run and stand on an island, a bottle was spun in the middle and those on the island it pointed toward were out.
Treasure Hunt:
BP buried the kids lolly bags in a box in the garden. The boys ran from clue to clue; the final one leading to a treasure map in a bottle…on it an X to mark the spot!
